elephantislandupcountryA 10 day yogic journey to Sri Lanka, known as the pearl of the Indian Ocean.  A land abundant with varied eco systems, rich and ancient history, wildlife and diverse cultures.   Awakening each day to beautiful sun rise, yoga session and a sri Lankan breakfast.  Then heading to a new destination to explore it’s culture and offerings.  Ending the day with a yoga session and delicious Sri Lankan Vegetarian dinner.

Day 1  (Feb 3)

Staying the first night in Negombo to regroup ourselves from a long flight.  This is a fishing town, dotted with several churches, some dating from the earliest colonial times of 1678.  We will be staying in a hotel by the lagoon.

Day 2 (Feb 4)

We will be off to Kandy which is a World Heritage Site.  Literally the “City on the Hills” so named as it was protected by nature – water, rocks and jungles. The last capital of the Sri Lankan kings before falling to the British in 1815AD. The name Kandy conjures vision of   splendor of magnificence. Many of the legends, traditions and folklore are still   lovingly kept alive. The center of attraction is the golden roofed Temple of the Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha .The Kandy Lake built by the last King Sri Wickramarajasinghe in 1806 holds a prominent view of the City. It is a City for arts and crafts as well culture and history

A visit to the Kandy Temple and then staying in a very traditional Yoga Retreat center.  On our way to the next destination, we will visit the  Elephant Orphanage to see the world’s largest herd of domestic elephants.

Day3, Day 4  & Day 5  (Feb 5-7)

Travel by train to Ella,  where the hills are like “Green Carpets”-covered with Tea and cascading Water Falls amidst breathtakingly beautiful landscapes.    We will stay here for 3 nights.  Exploring, hiking and doing yoga.

Walk in to a Spice Garden and tour to get some knowledge about the growth and use of spices in the day to day life

Royal Botanical Gardens– one of the best of its kind in Asia with more than 5000 species of different varieties of flora.

Day 6 (Feb 8)

Visit Yala National Park.  Best known of Sri Lanka’s National Parks , Yala (Ruhunu) National Park is located in the south east of the island bound by sea and river.  Go on a Jeep safari  and  if we are lucky, catch a glimpse of the Big Four- Elephant, Leopard, Bear and Buffalo.  Staying overnight, at a resort.

Day 7, 8 and 9 (Feb 9-11)

Head to Tangalle, it is the gateway to the wide-open spaces and wide-open beaches of southeast Sri Lanka.  Here we will spend 3 nights at the beautiful Eva Lanka resort.

Day 10 (Feb 12)

Travel to Colombo, the commercial capital.   A fascinating city, blend of East and West, but also for its balanced mixture of the past and present.  Spending one night here before heading out to Alaska.

Day 11 (Feb 13)

Heading to the airport for departure.

COST: Accommodations, Yoga, Vegetarian Breakfast, Vegetarian Dinner and only Ground Transportation (not airfare) based on the itinerary.
